Skating Lessons.

I have been feeling very blessed as of late. I am lucky enough to have a job I love, that also allows me to have a ton of flexibility due to the limited number of hours I work. One of the major perks is that Thursday mornings I am able to spend hanging out with my crazy niece. We have so much fun. A few weeks ago she started skating lessons.
I clearly was way more excited than she was, however the moment we got her skates on her she started doing tricks. During the Olympics I might have been a little enthusiastic about Tessa and Scott and insisted (lets be real, forced) that Jemma watch it with me. She in turn twirled around in front of the television trying to mimic them. So once we had her skates on it was all spinning and balancing on one foot and 'look what I can do Auntie'. As a result there was no stopping her to take a picture.
Currently we are 4 weeks into the 10 week session. At the beginning the teacher mentioned that by the end most kids are skating. The odds of that at the first session seemed very slim. One teacher and ten three year-olds resulted in a number of tears, lost mittens and not a lot of standing.

Week one no one stood. Week two still not a lot of standing. Week three however was the moment it clicked for all of them. All of them were able to get up on their own and stay up for a fair bit of time. Week four was the most drastic of a difference, we had skaters. Most were not fast, and there was a lot more dramatic falling, but they were up and they were moving.

As I mentioned to Jemma last week, I cannot wait to go away to Europe and come back to see just how much of a difference they have made in their skating. I am now confident in the teachers prediction that they all be skating by the end of the session. I cannot wait!
Showing off her tricks.

No chance in standing still.

For a brief moment they all stood at the same time.

This is how it always seems to end. Realizing that ice is cold.
