Sports Books for Girls.



Not your Typical Sports Books for Girls - Grade 4 to 6.

FOOTBALL - Tackling Dad by Elizabeth Levy  - Girls are finally able to try out for the middle school football team and Cassie makes the cut. Her dad is a former professional football player and is refusing the sign the consent form to let Cassie play.

SOCCER - Breathing Soccer by Debbie Spring – Lisa’s doctors are warning her against physical activities due to her worsening asthma, however Lisa loves soccer and is determined to continue playing.  
  
BASEBALL - Sliding into home by Dori Hilestad Butler – Joelle is a star baseball player, but when her family moves to a new town where the only option for girls is softball, she decides to  start a controversial all-girl baseball league.

ASSORTED - Girls got game: sports stories and poems edited by Sue Macy– A collection of 18 original short stories and poems by women about girls and sports including authors such as Virginia Euwer Wolff and Jacqueline Woodson.

BASKETBALL – Red-hot hightops by Matt Christopher – Kelly is normally afraid to play basketball in front of a crowd, but when she wears a pair of red hightops she becomes an all star player.

WRESTLING – There’s a girl in my hammerlock by Jerry Spinelli – Maisie joins the schools previously all-male wrestling team and struggles to find her place. She is faced with great opposition from students, teammates and even her best friend.

FIELD HOCKEY – Field hockey firsts by Jake Maddox. – Fiona used to play ice hockey but her new school only has field hockey, so she goes out for the team only to realize the new sport is much harder than she anticipated.
     
HOCKEY – Getting in the game by Dawn Fitzgerald – Joanne makes her middle school hockey team and is faced with the pressure to perform as everyone, including her best friend Ben is trying to get her off the team. 

GYMNASTICS – Gold Medal Summer by Donna Freitas – Joey is considering giving up her dreams of a gold medal in order to live a normal life, but she is under pressure to reach for a new level.

TENNIS – Game, set and match by Donna King – Cassie is a star tennis player, but she may no longer be in love with the sport since she has to keep choosing between spending time with her friends and tennis.


FIGURE SKATING – Sugar and ice by Kate Messner – Claire leaves her family farm when she is offered a scholarship to train at an elite figure skating camp in Lake Placid. There she faces mean girls and the competition is high.
